On Monday, May 24, 2021, members of the Board of Directors from the the Roanoke — Botetourt- New River Valley region of the Virginia Lewis and Clark Legacy Trail (VLCLT) gathered together to award Lewis and Clark Portrait signs to both Pulaski and Montgomery Counties, to their respective VLCLT Committee Chairs, and to the owners of historic sites and locations who were recipients of these signs. Five signs were awarded after submitting applications and being approved as verified Lewis and Clark-connected historic sites. They included, Fotheringay, (Montgomery Co.) the Radford City side of Ingles Ferry (Pulaski County), the first and second Roanoke River Crossings in Elliston and Lafayette, respectively, (both in Montgomery County), and to Pulaski County in honor of Expedition member, William Werner, who returned to the new Newbern area.
