Other:  Private William Werner (Warner)

Private William Werner may have been a Virginia-born member of the expedition, and afterwards, returned to Virginia. Although no proof has been found at this date, in his book, The Fate of the Corps: What Became of the Lewis & Clark Explorers After the Expedition, Larry E. Morris states that, “Upon marrying around 1807, he farmed in the western part of his home state, Virginia, where he and his wife raised their family.” Local historians are actively looking for more information about William Werner’s life in Virginia. Individuals with any additional information are requested to contact the Virginia Lewis & Clark Legacy Trail, Inc. by using the “Contact Form” on this website.
